🌱 Carjacker Shot With Own Gun + Free Internet Initiative

Hello all. It’s me, Dan Casarella, your host of the Philadelphia Daily. Here’s what you need to know about what’s happening in the community today.

First, today’s weather:

Mostly sunny and hot. High: 92 Low: 74.

📢 I’m looking for business owners and marketers in Philadelphia who want to build awareness, connect with customers and increase sales.

I have a limited number of sponsorships available to introduce our Philadelphia Daily readers to local businesses they need to know about. If that’s you, then I invite you to learn more and secure your spot now.

Here are the top three stories today in Philadelphia:

  1. A suspect was shot with their own gun after a victim gained control during an attempted robbery in a Philadelphia driveway. Police say the attempted robbery occurred on Rodney Street in a driveway at 11:24 a.m. A 69-year-old man was unloading groceries from his car when a 24-year-old suspect approached him and pointed a gun at him. Police say they do not believe the robbery was targeted. (FOX 29 Philadelphia)
  2. A Philadelphia city initiative has connected thousands of residents to free internet. The initiative, PHLConnectED, was launched during the pandemic with the goal of providing Philly students and their families with free internet for remote schooling. They have provided 22,500 internet connections. Households can qualify for the program if they lack internet access, only have mobile phone internet access, are experiencing homelessness or housing insecurity, or have students who participate in remote learning in locations without internet access. (The Philadelphia Tribune)
  3. A daughter is speaking out after her father was critically injured in a Northeast Philadelphia hit-and-run while riding his bike. Justine Doughty said, “I’m just scared. It just seems that every phone call I’m getting is worse and worse.” The 43-year-old bicyclist and his girlfriend were riding southbound in the northbound lanes on Bustleton Avenue when a driver traveling northbound struck the man and kept going. Police are still looking for the driver. (WPVI-TV)
