Sellers are often wondering if there are any other websites like eBay that they could sell on. The only other one that can even compete with eBay is Amazon.
Amazon does have some drawbacks, though. While they don’t have any listing fees, their transaction fees are higher than eBay. Unless you are selling books, your items that you sell on Amazon have to have a UPC number. So that eliminates a lot of things from around your house, that you can’t sell. Also if you’re planning on selling in certain categories, like jewelery for example, you are going to have to wait to get approved by Amazon, first before you can start selling on the site, These are just some of the things you have to think about.
So, besides amazon, are there any other good options? Well, you could always open up your own website. However, I strongly recommend that you open a website along with your eBay business, not instead.
If you open your website by itself, you’re going to have a really difficult time bringing in the traffic, especially if you have no experience. But if you open your own site along with eBay, You can funnel the traffic you’re getting from eBay and pass it over to your own website. Think of how many people visit one of your listings every day, or buy something from you. That is a potential customer that you can have buying from your website on a consistent basis.
It would be very difficult to get that kind of targeted traffic by yourself.
There are of course other options. Some of them even free! But the old adage “you get what you pay for” becomes very clear when you try them. You might be paying zero dollars on these sites, but that’s exactly how much traffic you’re getting most of the time: zero.
