Browsers VS Search Engines

April 26, 2015 by admin

There are many things that have to deal with the internet and computers that many people do not quite fully understand. This can be partly be blamed on the fact that they don’t care to learn as long as it is working correctly. Others will never want to learn because they aren’t very technical in nature.

Many people don’t understand what a browser and search engine are, however, before those are explained, you will need to know a few other things. The Internet is a bunch of computers that are connected to a network. This happens on a global scale. It is just a tool though. The World Wide Web uses the power of the internet to show web pages. Without one or the other, each one is basically useless.

A browser is what allows us to use the World Wide Web. You many not know what a browser is, as you many know them by other names. Google Chrome, Modzilla FireFox, Apple Safari, and Internet Explore are all browsers. Which one you like to use is dependent on your own personal style and computer. Typically, you can only use Safari on Apple computers, and not on Non-Apple computers. However, you can use the rest of the three on an Apple Computer.

The browser is a program that enables the computer you are using to show the web pages on the web. A search engine on the other hand is a web page! So a browser and a search engine are two completely different things. You need a browser to use a search engine, but you don’t need a search engine to use a browser. A search engine allows you to quickly find other web pages on the web. Without search engines then we would never be able to find things on the internet unless we knew the exact web page to visit.

If that didn’t confuse you more, you can think of a browser as a telephone. You can use it to call people if you know number of the person that you are trying to call. But what happens if you don’t know what the person’s number is that you want to talk to? Many of us would get out a phone book. That phone book is just like a search engine. It allows us to quickly find the person’s number (or website) quickly.
