If you’ve been marketing for a while online, you’ve no doubt run into people who will write to you and ask you for your product for nothing. It happens all the time. They give you some story about how they’re poor and don’t even have enough money to pay for food, but they’re sure if you just gave them your product they’d turn their lives around overnight. You’ve been inclined to do one of two things when this happens. One, either tell the person off, or two, give them your product. This article is going to suggest alternative things you can do that may actually be of more benefit to the person. Hopefully, after reading this, you’ll be able to come up with an alternative game plan.
The first thing you have to understand is how doing either of the two things I’ve mentioned above does no good. If you tell the person off, they’ve simply gone away feeling dejected, ridiculed and no better off than they were before they contacted you. If you simply hand them your product, most likely it won’t do them any good anyway. Most products require additional capital to make use of anyway, especially when it comes to make money online products. Most likely the product will only end up collecting dust on their hard drive because they don’t have the funds to make use of it.
Believe it or not, there is a better way.
The first thing you need to do is explain to this person that even if you were to give them your product, it most likely wouldn’t do them much good because it takes money to run a business. Explain that if they don’t have the money to buy your product, which is most likely no more than a few dollars anyway, they won’t be able to make use of it.
After you’ve explained this, make them an offer. Tell them that you’d be willing to give them the product in exchange for some service performed on their part. Certainly they must have some skill that they can provide and that you can use. If they refuse this offer then most likely they weren’t serious anyway and you will have weeded out those who are just looking for a handout who probably don’t even need it.
I am not against giving somebody a helping hand, but you’ll actually be of more service to somebody if you make them earn your product than if you just give it to them. They make actually discover that they have a skill that they can market and make money with.
And that kind of assistance is priceless.
