Christmas can be a very stressful time of the year for many people. This year I am seeing more people than ever struggle to try and buy gifts for their families and their friends even though they have minimal finances. When I watch the news, I see that the crime rate has increased tremendously because people are out of work yet they are still under pressure to bring home gifts for their families. If you fall in this category and you are feeling the pressure of the Christmas holiday, I have listed four things that you can do that will help you to make it through this holiday with minimal stress. These four things are: 1) Focus on who you are and not what you can give 2) Put the emphasis back on celebration and not on gift giving 3) Send Christmas cards and 4) Volunteer your time
#1 Focus on who you are and not on what you can give
It can be really easy to fall in a slump when you start thinking about your lack of resources and your inability to give gifts. This year instead of focusing on what you do not have, you can avoid getting stressed out by focusing on who you are. Make a list of all the great qualities that you admire about yourself and the qualities that other people have complimented you on. Believe it or not if you are a pretty decent person, sharing yourself is the best gift that you can give to anybody. This holiday, call your family and friends and tell them how much they mean to you and how much of an influence that they have had on your life.
#2 Put the emphasis back on celebration and not on giving gifts
If you have not planned to buy gifts for people ahead of time please do not go broke by spending money that you do not have. An alternative to buying gifts is spending quality time with your family and friends.
A stress free way that you can celebrate the holiday this year is by inviting your friends and family to a potluck dinner. The great thing about having a potluck dinner is that it is very economical because everyone has to bring a dish. After you finish eating dinner, you can read scriptures from the Bible and share stories how God has blessed you and your family.
#3 Send Christmas Cards
Personalizing and sending Christmas cards is a stress free and economical way to send gifts for Christmas. If you have a computer or a cell phone you can create Christmas cards by uploading pictures of yourself and personalizing a message. You can send your personalized Christmas card via your cell phone or as an email attachment on your computer.
#4 Give Your Time
The best stress free gift that you can ever give to the world is your time. If you are interested in volunteering your time this holiday season, you can look in your phone book and find local hospitals, shelters and senior homes. When you spend your time helping to bring joy to the lives of others you in return will receive joy from your actions.
