Globalization changed the face of international business in a lot of ways. The internet played a key role for globalization to become possible. Before the internet was implemented for general use, small to medium enterprises were pretty much limited to the local market. For a company to go international it had to be big and that meant a considerable financial investment. Communication between businesses from different countries proved to be expensive and erratic at best. All of that changed when the internet became available to the public.
The internet allowed businesses to grow and expand in ways that we only dreamed of a few years ago. The internet also paved the way for new businesses to be born. The internet made it possible for businesses around the world to reach out to each other and form partnerships. It allowed economies around the world to become more interconnected. Information between businesses was relayed with unprecedented speed and accuracy. This allowed for faster and more efficient delivery of products and services. The internet allowed businesses regardless of the scale to compete with bigger companies on a global scale. Businesses were able to reach and tap a broader market since they are no longer limited to the local market because of the distance or financial capacity.
This has not only been made a reality for large scale businesses, but also for an ordinary individual trying make a living. With the vast choices of business opportunities brought about by technology and the internet, anyone of any age who has knowledge on how to go about cyber space could earn a few hundreds if not thousands and even millions out of this knowledge.
Say for instance education, more specifically online tutorials. Learning something new or taking crash courses has never been this easy or convenient for both a student and an instructor. This has encourage more and more people to go back to school, or rather start learning something new or refresh one’s knowledge on a course or subject once taken up before. A computer with an internet connection, a headset and a webcam (if available) are the only requirements a student should be able to have. This also goes for the teacher or tutor giving the classes. This kind of education could be either done through an online school or an independent teacher or tutor. Thus it has opened an opportunity for a many educators to earn independently and within the four walls of their homes.
Another very good example would be Blogs. Blogs are basically considered online journals, very much similar to a diary, only difference is a whole lot more can be encoded in it and it can go beyond being a personal site to a business marketing site. Since many businesses has crossed over from the traditional means to online ventures, marketing one’s products and services has also developed based on the capacity of the internet to deliver information; hence, the introduction of Blogs. Nowadays, there are millions and millions of people making use of this online business and marketing tool. And every single day thousands of Blogs of different sorts are created that could either just make opinions be heard or market a particular product or service. All these could be achieved through the delightful wonders of the internet.
The internet has definitely transformed the way the world does business from small to large scale ventures. Hence, it has not only encouraged the growth and innovation of an individual to earn profit but has also developed a sense of interconnectedness amongst countries doing such business: the kind of business we could have never imagined possible decades ago.
