The man at the centre of the recent Netflix doc The Most Hated Man On The Internet has returned to Twitter. You can find out why he’s such a controversial figure below:
For some people, the name Hunter Moore may not mean that much, but you will probably have heard of isanyoneup.com.
The controversial and pretty sickening revenge porn website took the internet by storm about a decade ago.
Basically, it was a repository for nude photos of mainly women, though men were also targeted, which were posted alongside a screengrab of their Facebook account. Nice, eh?
Moore set it up in 2010 and quickly became one of the most infamous people on the planet.
When people got in touch with him to ask to have their photos taken down, he usually laughed in their faces and told them it was a valuable lesson about the dangers of sexting.
He would also regularly post on Twitter, being egged on by his many, many fans, called ‘The Family, saying that he didn’t care what critics thought of him and even asking people to send in more photos.
It later transpired that Moore had been paying someone to hack people’s accounts and steal photos.
The site was shut down in 2012 after Moore was tricked into selling it to an anti-bullying charity.
In 2013, the charity’s founder, James McGibney, won a $250,000 defamation case after Moore called him a ‘pedophile’ and threatened to rape his wife.
Moore’s Twitter account was suspended, and in 2015 he pleaded guilty to aggravated identity theft and aiding and abetting in the unauthorised access of a computer and was sentenced to just two-and-a-half years in prison.
He was released in 2017, and while he is still banned from Facebook, Moore has now returned to Twitter.
It seems that he’s been back for a bit, but it’s only now come to light because of the release of the Netflix doc.
News of his readmission to the site left people surprised, with some calling for him to be banned permanently.
“Twitter really needs to permanently ban him,” wrote on. “A truly evil person with no remorse. Ugh.”
While another added: “What the f**k?”
Moore was set to take part in the film but pulled out, claiming that he wasn’t allowed to tell ‘his side’ of the story.
In a post to Twitter, he said: “There is always two side of the stories, 60 percent of that Netflix documentary was BS, they never want you to tell or hear the truth.”
The 36-year-old also said in an interview that he has ‘grown up’ and ‘changed’ since he started isanyoneup, however, he admitted that he was a ’20-year-old kid having the time of his life’.
He claims that the outrage is due to the current ‘ultra-sensitive, woke era’.
The Most Hated Man On The Internet is available to watch on Netflix now.
