It is a known fact that obesity in children has more than tripled in the last 3 decades. Technology is growing at a very high rate, but so is obesity and child obesity in this case. Growth is always embraced when it’s positive, technology is a positive growth. On the other hand obesity and especially child obesity is not.
Now, as good as technology growth is, it significantly effects children. The current generation is overwhelmed by technology. Most children of this age and especially in the developed and developing countries do not know what life is without it. They have been brought up in and with technology.
When allowed, a child can sit and play video game for a whole day, the only places they visit is the (kitchen for food) and toilet. Whatever they consume even as they play these games is not healthy at all hence the obesity. In comparison to children of the earlier generations. The “Pre-Technology Era”, as my school professor liked to call it. Children in this generation spend their time outdoors running and playing and chatting with friends. Technology has enables the children to chat from the comfort of their home. Why should they go out and play, they have the video games in the to play with this also tend to lead to anti-social behaviors.
Parents also tend to heavily rely on the electronic baby sitters like the internet. And obesity is one of the negative results. Health is important so the Internet has to be limited should it cause such harmful effects to the child. The dangers of obesity are many among them is heart diseases, diabetes, stroke, cancers and many more. There is a high possibility of a child who is obese by the age of two to be obese all through his adult life hence developing such diseases.
It is said that children who spend time with a computer has better IT skills than one who does not. But what good will those skills be if it leads to obesity. Obesity is a health risk at any age, worse off in a child. They develop diseases at an early age, leading to visits to hospitals, that they hardly enjoy their adult life.
Our children are our future and how we raise them is how they grow, a few small changes can make the biggest difference. In Let us instill good morals them. They are our future.
When used in moderation, technology can be a useful tool for educating children, it help students with their studies. Monitoring the children’s use of technology will make sure that he stays safer and healthier, for they are developing and still establishing. They are very sensitive to routines and good ones for that matter. Keep them in check on what to apply and not to apply in their lives. Obesity will lead to serious health problems in their future.
As the children’s guardian we should set limits to computer usage at home, also set a good example, Children pick on habits they see at home. Stay at par with them if not ahead of them in technology. Want to know what gadgets they are using. If they are good for them or not.
