Cross-play between consoles for different games has been a hot topic recently as big-name companies figure out whether they want to play nice with each other or not, but as far as specific games go, Dragon Ball FighterZ isn’t one of the ones
Tomoko Hiroki, the producers of Dragon Ball FighterZ, was asked a couple of questions about the game recently during EVO by Shonen Games, one of which was whether or not Xbox and PlayStation players could engage in some 3-on-3 battles against each other.
“We do plan to bring the game to those consoles and Xbox One, but we aren’t planning on any cross play,” Hiroki said concerning whether or not cross-play was in the works between the PS4 and the Xbox One.
In recent months, there have been talks of utilizing cross-play for other games, such as Rocket League, between consoles, players on the PC, Xbox One, and even the Nintendo Switch have heard great news regarding cross-play potential for games like Rocket League and Minecraft, but Sony is taking a bit longer to hop on board. The decision is up to the game initially though, and it looks like Dragon Ball FighterZ won’t have any cross-play drama since there are no plans to support it.
Related back to other consoles, Hiroki also answered questions about bringing the game to the Nintendo Switch eventually. The idea wasn’t completely ruled out, and the answer provided actually looks pretty promising in response to the massive amount of requests for the game to come to the Switch.
“In terms of the Switch version, we’re currently working on Xenoverse 2 for the Switch, so we want players to first go there, and then we can talk about FighterZ,” Hiroki answered.
Hiroki also talked a bit about the details of the combat system and said that the 3-on-3 format will be important when it comes to choosing your team. Some characters will certainly be stronger than others, but he added that some of the character choices will be better suited for support roles and promised more information to come soon.
Dragon Ball FighterZ will be released in 2018 for the PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4.
