EA has laid out their plans for many of their biggest franchises, with confirmation of a new Need For Speed and hints of their first VR projects.
The next Mirror’s Edge (technically it’s a prequel, not a sequel) will be out sometime between January and March next year, but Titanfall 2 won’t be released until sometime after that.
While talking investors through their latest financial results EA also revealed there’s a follow-up to Plants Vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare due next spring, although it sounds like more of a spiritual sequel than a direct continuation.
A console Need For Speed game was also confirmed for this Christmas, alongside a mobile game called Need For Speed: No Limits. The console game hasn’t got a subtitle yet but is being developed by Need For Speed: Rivals creator Ghost Games.
Although Star Wars: Battlefront is likely to be their focus, you’d expect all of these games to get at least a passing mention at E3 next month. Mass Effect is also likely to be unveiled at the US event, following a recent hint from BioWare’s Mike Gamble.
EA told investors it expects to sell between nine and 10 million copies of Star Wars: Battlefront before next April. They have a number of other Star Wars games underway as well, but it’s unclear if any of them will be revealed before the new film is out in December – for fear of spoilers if nothing else.
There was also a brief hint that EA is currently experimenting with virtual reality projects, with CEO Andrew Wilson stating that the publishers plans to ‘lead from the front’ in terms of taking advantage of the new wave of headsets.
