The Sony Xperia P is one of the two new Sony handsets announced during the Mobile World Congress 2012. This is also the handset that attracted a lot of attention from both the press and the public who were able to see it up close. This handset bears the same futuristic design of its older sibling and current Xperia flagship the Xperia S. It comes with a squared off shape and a transparent strip (latest Sony Xperia trademark) below its screen.
If you’re looking for a more compact Xperia series handset, then this is for you. This handset ships with a 4.0″ display screen, while the Xperia S ships with a 4.3″ display screen. It comes in with a resolution of 540 x 960p and at 275ppi pixel density. The handset uses Sony’s latest WhiteMagic technology. This is responsible in increasing readability in bright conditions. This phone is said to be twice as bright even under heavy sunlight.
This handset comes with a high-quality design. It boasts an aluminum unibody design that looks great and feels robust. The phone’s dimensions are 122 x 60 x 10.5mm and it weighs in at 120 grams. This is a bit chunky but a bit on the lighter side.
Just like its famous brother the Xperia S, this ships with a transparent strip and it glows in different colors as well. This will indicate you of an incoming call or message or simply match the current color of your screen’s content (i.e. photos, wall papers, and others).
This handset ships with a powerful 1GHz dual-core processor and an 8MP shutter with a resolution of 3264 x 2448p. You will also get an LED flash and the conventional auto-focus on this handset. There is also a front-facing VGA camera and you can capture videos at 1080p at the rate of 30 frames per second.
This handset comes in with a built-in NFC technology just like the Xperia S. You will also get programmable SmartTags with this handset. You will also get a SmartDock for this handset. With this, you will be able to control HDMI playback via a remote control or you can simply connect a mouse and keyboard for a PC-like browsing experience.
This handset ships with Android Gingerbread OS but you can soon upgrade it to the latest Android iteration the Ice Cream Sandwich. This handset will be available in three different colors (black, red, and silver).
If you are looking for a high-quality and compact Xperia handset, then the Sony Xperia P is a good choice.
