Street Fighter V’s first new character has been revealed today at EVO 2015. His name’s Necalli and he’s a wild, Tarzan-looking grappler that seems to fight mostly using claw slashes. His hair is pretty fabulous, too. Capcom announced that there would be four all new characters coming to Street Fighter V, and Necalli is the first to be revealed. Capcom showed him off in a trailer that was livestreamed from EVO 2015.
There’s really not a lot of information on Necalli yet, with Capcom still holding off on any press releases or further announcements. We know so little, we’re not even sure if Necalli is the correct spelling. What we do know is that he has a ground-pound attack and that, for some reason, his hair changes colour. You can check out the trailer as it was captured from the livestream below.
The reveal of the first new character comes two days after Capcom explained Street Fighter V’s payment system. Capcom had Street Fighter fans worried by its announcement that the game would involve microtransactions that would allow paying players to advance more quickly. Capcom announced at a panel at EVO that it’s moving away from releasing just a few large updates to more regular, smaller updates. The good news is that the main content can be unlocked for free. Street Fighter V will come with 16 playable characters, 4 of them new (one of which is Necalli), and all game balancing and system updates will be available for free. Capcom also said that all post-launch “gameplay related” content can be unlocked for free (earned by playing the game).
To keep things clear, Street Fighter V will have 2 currencies – an in-game currency and a currency that is earned by spending real-life money. Fight Money is obtained in-game while Zenny is purchased in real-life and can be used to bypass the more grindy sections. Capcom’s still working on the exact pricing models, but it seems so far that the freemium elements of Street Fighter V are going to be relatively minor.
Street Fighter V releases for PS4 and PC sometime in a few months.
