It’s the weekend, and that means it’s time to do some Fortnite challenges. If you’re just signing in, however, you might be a little surprised at one in particular. The challenge that asks you to complete timed trials doesn’t have anything to do with the racetrack, though some do require a set of wheels. They’re little courses set across the map that ask you to run through a certain number of holographic checkpoints before time runs out. And they’re hard! If you’re stuck on getting the requisite five, here are some guides to help you out, with video by Youtuber Flamm.
If you want to see where to go, check out the map over here. If you’re looking to do this the easy way, I’d recommend skipping the two ATK courses at Sobby Shores and by Tomato Town. Oasis, Retail Row and Lonely Lodge will be the easiest to pick up. Let’s get into it.
South of Snobby Shores: This is an ATK course: there’s no way you’re going to cover this thing on foot. You start by driving toward the house and then swing around to hit the jump. This is where things get tricky: you either need to put down some built pieces to guide the ATK into the next checkpoint or hit the jump at just the right angle and then course correct, which can be tough. Another ramp as you go up to the end of the course will be less of a headache for everyone. When I did this there was as a small crew of players all riding in the same ATK.
East of Junk Junction: You’re basically circling the Stone Head on this one. See all those big trees around? Cut them down, because you’ll need them. You need to build a series of ramps circling the head in order to hit all of these things, so try it a few times with something simple and then see what you missed. Talented players will be able to do this on the fly, but us mortals will want the ramps in place before trying to complete it.
Desert Biome: This one is a cinch. You really only need one built piece to get up on top of the red rock by the waterfall. Aside from that you just have to run the course away from the waterfall, around and up the ramp and then take a little jump off to complete it.
West of Tomato Town: This is a rough one. I think–think–it could be completed on foot. I failed to do so just barely a number of times, and I think it’s possible. Regardless, that’s not how you’re supposed to do it. This is an ATK course, and I’d recommend grabbing one from nearby Lazy Links. You may need to throw a ramp or down, but it shouldn’t be the worst if you’ve got the proper equipment. Credit on this one goes to Youtuber Fukezu ツ.
West of Shifty Shafts: This one is about moving upwards. You need to create a ramp that hits every one of these checkpoints in vertical order: editing is your friend when it comes to creating half ramps and other more flexible pieces of fort. Take note, however: you can still collect a checkpoint if it’s sitting directly underneath a ramp or building piece, and I found this very useful to avoid looping back in on my structure too many times.
If you don’t want to build, do this in 50 vs. 50. Somebody will likely have already built the area out. I managed an uneasy truce in solo, but it did not end well.
Lonely Lodge: This one is pretty straightforward. It starts on top of the main lodge building, and you can get most of it done with just straight running. A ramp or two will help smooth things out towards the beginning and with the van at the end, however. If you’re not looking to break a sweat on these, I’d recommend going with this one.
Retail Row: A straight runner. This shouldn’t give you trouble even if you’re playing on mobile: just hop on those trucks and cars and pretend you’re in a parkour video from the mid 2000s. Credit on this one goes to Youtuber Fukezu ツ.
