My Web Search is a common BHO “Browser Help Object” which installs itself as as a Toolbar onto your Internet web browser, and will then try and change your home page along with a series of other things. Although “My Web Search” is actually a legitimate software program (it’s not a virus – just really annoying), many people report to getting it automatically installed on their computer and find it difficult to remove. In order to get rid of the My Web Search program, you can get rid of the virus by using the tutorial outlined in this article.
There are two ways to get rid of this software. We are fortunate in that the “MindSpark” company (who make the toolbar) include uninstall instructions for us to use. This means that you can use the “Add / Remove Programs” applet in Windows to get rid of the virus, as well as using an automated removal solution if you prefer.
The first way to get rid of this software is to manually get rid of it. This can be done by following these steps:
- Click Start > Control Panel > Add / Remove Programs
- Locate any “My Web Search” listings
- Click “Remove” Next To The Listings
- Restart Your PC
This should get rid of the infection from your system. However, if it does not or you would prefer to use an automated method to get rid of the program, you should look at using a tool called “XoftSpy”. This is a malware removal program which will scan through your PC and get rid of all the infected programs that are on it. This is one of the only removal tools which will get rid of all the “My Web Search” files, allowing your PC to run much more reliably again. You can download the tool, install it and then let it remove the “My Web Search” infections your system has in order to completely get rid of the virus.
