Palm Beach Gardens-based Megachurch Christ Fellowship offered $13 million for the site of the former Digital Domain studios in Port St. Lucie, and as one Port St. Lucie councilman preached, “cash is king.”
On Monday the Port St. Lucie City Council unanimously gave initial approval to the church’s offer. A final vote is scheduled for May 11.
On Jan. 1 the city had retaken control of the facility, now called Tradition Studios, through bankruptcy proceedings and rejected offers that did not include sufficient security deposits, officials said. The church made its offer in writing April 21, along with a cashier’s check for the full amount of the purchase price.
The church, ninth largest in the U.S., plans to spend $6 million to $8 million to renovate the property and turn it into a campus for its religious services and social programs.
