Good news, my friend! Danger 5 creators Dario Russo and David Ashby are partaking in a watch party marathon of their cult favorite TV series on Shout! Factory’s Twitch channel.
Kicking off next weekend, “The Perfect Danger 5” livestream will feature the creators as they provide behind-the-scenes commentary on certain episodes, answer questions from the audience, and host an interactive game for fans to participate in. Personally, I’m holding out hope for the marathon’s big finale to just be Adolph Hitler (played by Dario’s father, Carmine, of course) jumping through a glass window.
“It’s great to see Danger 5 on Shout! Factory TV alongside so many great TV series and movies that inspired us to make this show in the first place,” Russo and Ashby said in a joint statement. “We’re really looking forward to the livestream marathon, so we can bore people to death with long-winded anecdotes about crew fist-fights and things that caught fire during production.”
The event gets its name from the way side characters always reveal their “perfect” cocktail recipes to Pierre (Aldo Mignone) as they dramatically die in his arms. It’s the kind of deep cut fan reference that makes me happier than Jackson (Ashby) punching Nazis.
As I’ve said in the past, Danger 5 is one of the most (if not the most) underrated TV program of the last 10 years. Set during an alternate, ‘60s-inspired version of World War II, the show follows a motley and dysfunctional crew of international agents tasked with killing Hitler and stopping the Third Reich from taking over the world with dinosaurs and kaiju. I could talk about the fact that the squad gets their marching orders from a British colonel with an over-sized bird’s head or the cinematography that perfectly channels Ted Moore’s work on the early Bond films, but it’s better if you check the thing out for yourself.
Aside from Mignone and Ashby, the rest of the core cast is made up of Sean James Murphy (Tucker) Michelle Nightingale (Claire), and Nataša Ristic (Ilsa).
“The Perfect Danger 5” gets straight to the biscuits Saturday, June 27 at 9pm EST and will carry over into the rest of the weekend. Both seasons are set to air in their entireties, but creator commentary will be focused on Season 1.
After leaving Netflix a while back, all 13 episodes are finally available to watch in the U.S. again. You can stream both seasons on Shout! Factory’s multiple TV platforms like ShoutFactoryTV.com; Shout! Factory TV’s Roku, Amazon Fire, Apple TV, and Android apps; and on various Shout! Factory TV branded channels including Tubi, Amazon Prime Channels, and the Roku Channel.
Russo and Ashby recently celebrated the release of their first Audible Original — one based on the show — Danger 5: Stereo Adventures.
