ACS outage restored after phones, internet go down

Alaska Communications service was restored Tuesday night to Kenai Peninsula customers who had experienced outages, the company’s corporate communications manager, Heather Marron, said at around 7:45 p.m.

The update came roughly four hours after the company first announced that customers were experiencing outages.

Marron could not provide the total number of customers affected because ACS does not share subscriber numbers.

Marron said Tuesday around 6:20 p.m. that the outage impacted “all” services and that the company had isolated a fiber issue between Kenai and Soldotna. Crews were on location working on the issue, Marron said, adding that it was the company’s “top priority.”

The outage affected all inbound and outbound calls to Central Peninsula Hospital, the hospital shared in an update at 3:57 p.m. Tuesday and came days after severe weather caused power outages for thousands of Homer Electric Association customers, many of which were caused by trees that fell on power lines over the weekend.

Marron said Tuesday evening that customers whose service was not restored automatically should try troubleshooting. If the customer’s DSL modem does not have a solid DSL or SYNC light, disconnect it and power off for one minute, then reconnect it to power.

If, after five minutes, service has not been restored, customers are asked to submit a support request through AccountView using a mobile phone or alternate internet connection.
