Are you rude or polite

The world is divided over this bipartition issue.

Climate change and health care apparently aren’t the only polarizing issues of our time. A UK influencer has split the internet down the middle after inquiring about whose responsibility it is to put the divider on the supermarket conveyor belt.

A video detailing the raging debate currently boasts thousands of views as social media users duke it out over the divisive question with some hot takes.

“Who’s job is to put the divider between the shopping? Mine? Or the person behind me?” asked Kaye Hurry — who goes by @specialk770 on TikTok — in the clip. She clarified in the comments that she had formulated the question while waiting on a long queue at the supermarket, explaining, “I needed something to think about lol.”

Needless to say, the topic had the comment section warring like the left and the right over student loan reparations.

Many argued that erecting the conveyor belt cordons was the responsibility of the person who had just finished loading their groceries, with one writing, “Yours once you have put your shopping on…or is that just me?”

“Yours. Put the barrier after you’re done so the person behind you knows you’re finished loading,” seconded another commenter about the supermarket etiquette question.

Some shopping gurus claimed that building the wall wasn’t common courtesy, but rather a means of preventing the cashier from accidentally putting another customer’s groceries on their tab.

“Mine. I ain’t paying for their stuff,” said one indignant poster while another wrote, “Mine, otherwise I’m offering to buy theirs too apparently.”

One jokester quipped, “Your job, and if they don’t say thank you then you pick it back up again and put it back on the side.”

“I’m a checkout worker,” decreed another. “It’s yours, to be honest.”

However, others believed it was up to the person behind them to segregate the goods. “Person behind you,” said one, while another wrote, “Behind but I always put it there to be polite.”

Many claimed it was the responsibility of whoever was closer to the cordon.

Meanwhile, a couple of social media shoppers were divided about the issue. “It’s not a defined rule,” said one supermarket centrist, while another claimed that it “doesn’t really matter either way.”

One checkout aficionado declared that putting up a buy barrier “is no one’s job, it’s just whoever has the manners to do it.”

Although others believed that the responsibility goes to whoever is closest to the divider.

But one person said she does “it either way.”
