ORRVILLE — With many schools opting to do remote learning during the coronavirus pandemic, an internet provider is looking to make virtual coursework a little easier with extra gigs.
Armstrong, a provider of high-speed Zoom Internet with enhanced WiFi, will offer an additional 500 gigabytes of data to the monthly allowance of Zoom internet customers, according to a news release.
The increase in data began Nov. 26 and is intended to allow families and “their children to attend school from home without creating a significant impact on their normal internet usage,” the release said.
Mike Bricker, general manager for Armstrong’s Orrville system, said in a statement he hopes the increase will “help to put minds at ease.”
Many schools have adjusted from in-person and hybrid learning plans to full virtual learning as COVID-19 cases continue to rise. According to the release, the service provider expects to see an increase in data consumption — similar to what the business saw in March and April when students and workers went remote.
Armstrong’s average monthly data consumption for residential internet customers is 300-350 gigabytes per month. The business provides services such as internet, TV and phone to multiple states including Ohio, Pennsylvania, West Virginia and New York.
The company recently relaunched its Zoom Extreme product, which provides unlimited data and whole-home enhanced WiFi. Armstrong customers can purchase unlimited data for any residential Zoom service level for $35 per month. More information is available at www.ArmstrongOneWire.com.
