NEW PALESTINE – Schools in the Community School Corporation of Southern Hancock County district were subject to a cyber attack over the last two days, primarily affecting internet connectivity for teachers and students.
No personal information for students, families or staff was compromised, as officials believe it was a targeted attack focused on taking down their internet.
The attack impacted internet connectivity for teachers, students in our classrooms, and students attending virtually. It also affected the functionality of some other district programs, including PowerSchool and Canvas, said Wes Anderson, CSCSHC Director of School and Community Relations.
The district has notified the New Palestine Police Department, the Hancock County Sheriff’s Department and Indiana State Police.
“We take this attack on the Southern Hancock educational environment very seriously,” Anderson said in a letter to parents. “We sincerely apologize for any difficulties this has caused for your students and our teachers. We want to thank our teachers for keeping learning going both in-person and virtually during the outage. We know that everyone in the Southern Hancock community has worked diligently to support our students during these unfortunate circumstances.”
