When Kevin Durant came up lame after a jumper late in the third quarter of the Warriors’ 104-99 win over the Rockets on Wednesday night, the speculation immediately started.
The way Durant reacted to the non-contact injury gave fans flashbacks to the Lakers’ Kobe Bryant’s reaction to his ruptured Achilles in 2013. In fact, TNT analyst Reggie Miller almost immediately started speculating that Durant had suffered a similar injury.

Later in the game, the Warriors released a statement that said Durant strained his right calf. After the game, Warriors coach Steve Kerr said, “I was assured that it’s a calf strain and not the Achilles.”
The concern for Durant’s injury occurs on many different levels. Any decent human being – Rockets fan or not – doesn’t want to see Durant seriously injured. Warriors fans, obviously, want their star player available for another title run. Then, there are fans of teams out of the playoffs – namely the New York Knicks – who are hoping to land Durant in free agency this offseason and would like their new player healthy and ready to go for next season.
No matter which team’s colors you wear, Durant’s injury, on which the Rockets couldn’t capitalize, set Twitter ablaze with speculation and concern for one of the NBA’s biggest stars.
