The Internet did make interacting much simpler, but its true shining moment was shown during the time when calamities struck, when people affected by it are hanging on for their lives and when there is no help in sight…Internet became their beacon of hope. We all remember Hurricane Katrina in the States, the killer earthquake in Haiti and Super-typhoon Ondoy in the Philippines, when these catastrophic calamities occurred and wreaked havoc, quite a few were stucked in areas where help was almost impossible to get, their families and friends sought and found help using the Internet and a lot were saved. It served as a medium in raising money to help rehabilitate gravely affected areas and give aid to families who have lost everything. The outpour of help and support was incredible and somehow helped eased the pain caused by the said tragedies. It definitely helped minimized the number of lives lost in these unfortunate events and forever changed how we see Internet today, that it’s not just a quick fix to everyday simple tasks but also a life-saver.
The way we connect to the world and interact with people has definitely changed over the past years and Internet marked the start of this major revolution. So aside from keeping you in the know about the latest trends, gossips or events, other than making assignments, paper works or billings easier for you, having an Internet is not just a powerful informative tool, it can also give you a sense of security, knowing that in any given situation, when immediate help is needed, you can always rely on it.
