Some internet marketers are entrepreneurial personalities who in essence promote products and services as an affiliate or hired gun. Others work for firms and agencies or on a contract basis. They are as varied in personality as they are in their approaches.
Internet Marketers come in three basic flavors:
The Gurus:
These are marketers who have achieved a certain amount of success, quite often as online affiliate marketers or by using other internet wealth building techniques. Gurus are quite often found on the seminar speaking circuits and most often have their own marketing products and services for sale with the obligatory up-sells attached. Gurus often but not always come from some type of sales background. Gurus use words like “Massive Traffic” and “Multiple Income Streams”.
The Corporate Internet Marketers:
Here we have the traditionally trained marketers who use the internet as a marketing tool. Sometimes we find that traditional marketing philosophies and techniques are trying to be applied to the constantly evolving internet sphere with variable success. Corporate Internet Marketers like to use words like and phrases like. “Mind Share” and “Global Reach” and “Segmented Demographic Profiles”
The Underground Internet Marketer
The underground marketers are folks who tend to use many of the same marketing tactics as gurus, in fact they often become gurus in their own right using methods that they have developed themselves over time. Underground marketers also often apply many of the same principles and methods of corporate marketers without the high collar business jargon.
There is a great deal of cross over among these types of marketers, in a sense they are all using the same tools, techniques and methods to achieve similar goals, the differences lie in approach, style, terminology and mindset. Whereas the corporate mindset may be focused on long term concerns such as branding, the guru mindset is focused on immediate results while the underground mindset is focused somewhere in the middle.
