I used to love watching all the old 60s sitcoms, especially the ones where there was a story involving a used car salesman. Those guys were so cheesy. They were the last people you’d ever want to buy anything from, let alone something as important as a car. So why is it that so many Internet marketers come off as used car salesmen? You know the type I’m talking about. They have their slick overhyped sales pages and crappy products. They give Internet marketing a bad name. So no offense, but are YOU a used car salesman? If you’re not sure, maybe you might want to see if any of the items below fit your marketing plan.
To start off with, you create products that are nothing but rehashed versions of yesterday’s news. There is nothing new in them. They’re just the same old garbage in a shiny new wrapper. If this is the case, you probably have quite a high refund rate. Oh I know what they say, if your refunds are low you’re not selling hard enough. But I sell plenty and my refunds are very low. So I don’t buy into that nonsense. I create products that are new and helpful. They’re not just pretty packages wrapped up with nice little bows.
Then there’s your sales page. Oh brother, I could have a ball with this. You know the ones I’m talking about. They have headlines that read something like, “I’ll Show YOU How To Make $30,000 In 30 Days…Guaranteed”. And trust me, that one is tame next to some of the hype I’ve seen. And the sales pages only get worse after the headline. Go on…take a look at yours and tell me where it falls. Then read the rest of your sales page and see if it doesn’t make you want to be sick all over your PC.
If you’re honest with yourself, you’ll know whether or not you fall into this category. In either case, the point is this. You may be okay with being a used car salesman, but take a look at what many people are saying about our industry. We don’t have the best reputation in the world and it’s because of the things I’ve stated above and a lot more, such as the latest craze…hidden forced continuity. Don’t even get me started on that. So, if you want to be a used car salesman, go right ahead. Just don’t be surprised when you hear people say that we’re all just a bunch of crooks.
To YOUR Success,
Steven Wagenheim
