Kirk Cameron, star of ‘Growing Pains,’ has made a documentary titled ‘Homeschool Awakening,’ in which he critiques American schooling, calling it inaccurate and immoral. Cameron has a strong opinion on how children are educated in schools, and he believes that children should be better educated at home. In the teaser, one mother explains, “The freedom we had was so worth the small sacrifice it was to teach the kids. Now 12 years later, I realize it wasn’t a sacrifice – it was a total gift.” “”No one’s gonna love our children more than we do,” one father added while a homeschooled teen remarked, “And the greatest gift that I was given was my own identity. My parents gave me that.”
According to Cameron, one of the first goals of the film is to dispel the myth that homeschooling is terrible and that those who do it are rare and underdeveloped in comparison to those who attend a traditional school. The synopsis of the documentary reads, “Families across the nation are experiencing the homeschool awakening, taking advantage of the freedom and opportunities for self-discovery — with the world as their classroom. Join award-winning actor, Kirk Cameron, as he dives into the adventures of dynamic American families on a mission to put fun and faith back into learning. The Homeschool Awakening explores the ins, outs, and honest answers to homeschooling’s most frequently asked questions.”

Social media was quick to react as one person wrote on Twitter, “Homeschooling has transformed my kids into amazing young adults. They amaze me. School teachers just send work home anyways and we always ended up doing it. We use an online system and our kids have learned not only about education but managing time and personal responsibility.” “Yeah, homeschooling them then. That’ll keep them quarantined at home and that’s all we’ve been asking for,” another person added. Yet another person remarked, “The best route to saving our children.”
However, everyone was not happy with Kirk’s idea just like one person pointed out, “All Kirk Cameron is doing is making money off the fears of the common man and woman. We tried homeschooling during the 20-21 school year, all it did was put our eldest daughter further behind her peers. You do your children no favors by sheltering them.” Another said, “Kids need that social interaction just like y’all do on here”.
Meanwhile, according to ABC News, 18 states submitted statistics from the current school year in early April; the number of kids attending lessons at home climbed by 63 percent in 2020-2021, then declined by just 17 percent in 2021-2022. This indicates that parents have decided not to send their children to school for the sake of safety and better education.

Cameron has stated that the public school system does not work with the people, but rather against them, and that the public school system is America’s number one enemy in his perspective. The actor advises seizing control of education because whoever controls the textbooks has influence over the future. The documentary will only be shown in theaters on June 13 and 14.
