A Labrador retriever named Ace’s authentic reaction to hearing the word “cows” is garnering a lot of attention online after going viral.
The TikTok video recounting the moment, captioned “I [heart emoji] cows #dog #funnydog #viraldog #fyp #dogfail #lab #labrador,” has been viewed 2.7 million times and liked over 206,000 times since it was shared on August 14.
Labrador retrievers have a life expectancy of between 10 and 12 years, according to the American Kennel Club, and vary in weight from 65 to 80 pounds for males and 55 to 70 pounds for females.
Labrador retrievers are the most popular dog breed in the country. The breed is considered friendly and outgoing and requires a fair amount of exercise.
The video was posted by TikToker @ace__adventures, or Ace Adventures, as the TikToker filmed their Labrador in the backseat of a vehicle.
“Mom accidentally trained me to look every time we pass cows,” the text overlay reads onscreen.
The five-second clip starts with the dog relaxing in the backseat of a car when suddenly one word changed everything. “Cows,” the TikToker says from the front seat, which prompts a look of realization on his face and wide eyes as he realizes what’s going on.
Suddenly, Ace bolts up and darts to the car window to look outside for cows passing by. The dog looks off in all directions out the window for the cows he expected to see before the clip cuts short.
There is also an additional video clip of Ace looking for cows from the backseat window upon hearing the word again. Plus, a video of the dog finally getting a glimpse of cows.
The dog’s alertness at the word “cows” has prompted a mix of reactions from online viewers, with more than 500 comments pouring in over the viral moment.
Words of appreciation were everywhere, and many have experienced similar occurrences with their animals as well. “My Dane would do this too,” a viewer revealed. “His word was ‘friends,’ and he believed the cows were his friends.”
Apparently, this isn’t exactly a new behavior for some dogs. “Oh my gosh!” a TikToker said. “Mine does this too! I didn’t know anyone else’s did! I love it.”
One user noted the dog was “a true Midwesterner” by his reaction.
Another TikToker admitted they are both Ace and the TikToker filming when they drive. “Me driving in a rural area is a danger to myself and others… But moooooo,” they said.
Other viewers had comments like, “So sweet,” “Aw, that’s cute” and “This is beautiful.”
Some people admitted they actually do the same thing and can relate. “I do this when someone announces in the car there is a cow,” a TikToker said.
Another viewer didn’t mince words with their feelings. “This is the best,” they said. While a TikToker thinks the “dog is on a mission.”
