manipur: Internet Wells Up As Little Girl In Manipur Babysits Brother In Class | Imphal News

IMPHAL: When a heart-touching photo of a little girl babysitting her younger brother inside the classroom in a remote Manipur village went viral, hardly anyone was left with a dry eye.
Maningsiliu Pamei, all of 11 years, was clicked sitting on her desk, cradling her baby brother inside the classroom in the remote Zeliangrong Naga-dominated Tamenglong district, while her parents were busy working in the fields. The viral photograph prompted the Manipur government and a student body to rush to the aid of the girl and her poor family.
Maningsiliu is a Class 1 student at the autonomous district council-run Dailong primary school in her native Dailong village.
The eldest of four siblings, Maningsiliu has been praised for her indomitable spirit to study, as the powerful photograph went viral on social media. On Sunday, chief minister N Biren Singh sent a childline service team which provided ration to her family as immediate relief besides taking steps to support her under the integrated child protection scheme. His cabinet colleague, Th Biswajit Singh, promised to look after her education till she graduates.
The Rongmei Naga Students’ Organisation, Manipur (RNSOM), visited Maningsiliu’s family and extended monetary help of Rs 10,000 to her family as a token of love and appreciation.
“Normally, small children don’t take the burden of their families. But little Maningsiliu is different. She understands the hardships and poverty faced by her family,” RNSOM president Daichui Gangmei said on Sunday evening. To help her parents, she takes care of her little brother, brings him to school and babysits him in the classroom, Daichui said, adding “We also assured them that we will support Maningsiliu’s education throughout.”
Daichui said, “She has set the best example for children and students of today’s world that poverty and lack of opportunities cannot stop anyone from chasing their dreams.”
