WHATCOM COUNTY, Wash. – The Port of Bellingham is working to bring high-speed internet to unserved parts of Whatcom County.
The Port said in a news release Thursday, February 17th, that they worked with the County Utility District to secure over $10 million over the past year to develop new internet infrastructure.
They’ll start by extending 30 miles of open access fiber to 1,100 homes and businesses north of Ferndale, and then lease that public infrastructure to internet service providers.
Two other projects, on East Nooksack/North Mosquito Lake Road and north of Lynden, will bring broadband access to over 900 homes.
Funding for these projects comes from the Washington State Broadband Office and Whatcom County’s Economic Development Investment Program.
