Fiber-based Internet service is now in downtown Americus after a project through S&A Telephone.
The telecommunications provider recently received $107,000 in CARES Act funding to build the infrastructure needed for this improvement. Operations Supervisor Josh Reece says it was important to both meet the requirements of the grant as announced two months ago by Governor Laura Kelly and get customers online before the holidays.
S&A Telephone also serves communications needs in Admire, Allen and Emporia.
Meanwhile, IdeaTek is getting $3.6 million to add fiber in Cottonwood Falls and Strong City through the same program. Construction is underway. Wabaunsee County is also getting over $450,000 to enhance its technology operating the Citizens Broadband Radio Service set of frequencies.
