Seniors NL Available to Help Residents Without Internet Access with COVID Questions

Seniors NL is reminding residents without internet access who are looking for COVID-19 information to give them a call.

The provincial government is asking people not to flood the 811 phone line with questions not related to ongoing medical concerns. The tele-triage service is being inundated with questions from the public about COVID test results, the availability of rapid test kits or questions about the availability of booster shots.

Elizabeth Siegel, Director of Information and Referral services with Seniors NL, says that any seniors looking for information from the COVID-19 website or any other website and do not have internet access can call them and they will look up the information. She says staff are working remotely, so anyone calling is asked to leave their name and number and a staff member will get back to them from an unknown number.

With many COVID-19 supports online, Siegel says some seniors are having difficulty accessing them.

She says many are having trouble booking vaccine appointments, even with the call-in option, as lines are often busy. She says they recognize people without internet are at a disadvantage and will try to help in anyway they can.
