A 75-foot Norway spruce arrived at New York City’s Rockefeller Center on Nov. 14 to serve as one of the world’s most famous Christmas trees. The tree will be decorated over the coming weeks and more than 5 miles of lights will be illuminated at a ceremony at 7 p.m. Dec. 2, according to NBC.
The famous tree is popular with tourists every year, but this year most of the attention is coming virtually — and not just because people are staying home. The internet is abuzz with jokes at the tree’s expense. The less-than-regal pine tree has been getting trolled online for being, well, kind of ugly. Its scrawny branches are being interpreted as a visual representation of 2020.
