It was a story that was easy to love in this turbulent time.
A couple met on a plane, possibly fell in love and then the guy – quickly nicknamed #PlaneBae by the internet – ended up being the brother of former USMNT player Stu Holden, Euan Holden.

It was a journey captured and enjoyed on social media by two slightly nosy but we assume well-meaning passengers who had asked the unidentified woman to switch seats so they could sit together, thus sparking the meeting between her and #PlaneBae and became a social media sensation.
Euan Holden embraced it, teasing us on social media and TV appearances about his budding potential romance.
And for awhile, it seemed like it could be the happiest of all stories.
But sometimes, things end up being terrible.
The unidentified woman in the #PlaneBae story told The TODAY Show that she’s been subjected to harassment and other terrible things since the story went viral.
Holden hinted about this turn when he shared his thoughts about the privacy debate sparked by this unfortunate reality in a YouTube video last week:
“It’s sad,” he said. “It put a damper on the week that all it took was a few individuals so anxious and excited to find out more that they really went to the depths of really searching to find and reveal the identity of someone who didn’t want to be found. It’s sad really. I hope this story, if nothing else, can shine the light on privacy.”
Holden also said that the Twitter user who first posted the now-viral story was “kind” and well-meaning. But, after the backlash, she has deleted her account.
