Bellefonte – The federal government’s effort to provide affordable, reliable, high-speed internet for everyone in America was highlighted in Central Pennsylvania Wednesday.
Governor Tom Wolf was in Centre County to promote Pennsylvania’s readiness to manage more than $100 million in federal funds to deploy broadband across the Commonwealth.
The lack of reliable broadband in many areas of the state was exacerbated over the past two years as Pennsylvanians relied on virtual means of communication, work, and learning.
Rural counties are especially vulnerable.
Studies show that at least 500,000 Pennsylvanians are without broadband.
The goal of the federal program is to make affordable, reliable, high-speed internet available for everyone by 2030.
