Even though there’s no shortage of beautiful flora and fauna in the world, there are certain creatures that are a sight to behold. Like this incredible ‘golden tortoise beetle’ that is nothing short of magical.
Golden tortoise beetle, also known as Charidotella Sexpunctata, is a species of beetle
that belongs to the family of the leaf beetle, the Chrysomelidae family.
They are given the name ‘golden tortoise beetle’ because of their transparent shell, which is very similar to the hard shell of a tortoise. What is interesting is the fact that golden tortoise beetle may or may not be found in the standard golden colour as their colour changes in every new stage of their life cycle.
However, what comes in plenty is that this unique creature keeps making appearances on the internet. Recently, popular nature and wildlife account Amazing Nature shared a video showing three golden tortoise beetles crawling on a man’s palm.

I didn’t know those existed. Bugs are so cool. They get all the otherworldly colorings and sensors.

Golden tortoise beetles are found in different colours during their mating period, development period, and also when a human touches them. From reddish-brown with black spots to brilliant, mirror-like gold, they are found in varied colours. Such beetles consume the foliage of plants including bindweeds, morning glory and sweet potato. They play dead when disturbed.
Scientific research proves that they change colour due to hydration or dehydration of the insect or elytra’s body.
Golden tortoise beetles are native insects of North America. Populations of these insects are in growth and can be found in abundance, but this insect’s exact population is not known.
Talking about unique creatures, here is another. Last year, a video went viral on Instagram showing an Orchid Mantis, an insect that resembles a flower.
As its name suggests, the Orchid Mantis looks like a beautiful flower for its colours and shape. But make no mistake about it, the insect characterized by its inverted triangle-shaped face and vertically long eyes is a fearsome hunter.
The video featured the insects walking on a person’s palm. You can barely tell if these are flowers or insects.
