What is the I Can Has Cheezburger meme as internet users reel over posts?

Internet users are still reeling over the age-old ‘I Can Has Cheezburger’ meme and it has become more popular now than ever before.

Avid social media users have documented their cats’ love for cheeseburgers. Posts on Instagram, TikTok, Twitter and Reddit are all teeming with videos and pictures of our feline friends savouring a bite or a lick from their hooman’s burger.

Hence, it was only natural that we would collectively start remembering the ‘I Can Has Cheezburger’ meme from back in the day.

What is the ‘I Can Has Cheezburger’ meme?

While there are many renditions of it now, the classic version of the meme featured a smiling British Shorthair and a superimposed text in the picture that read: ‘I CAN HAS CHEEZBURGER?’

As per Know Your Meme, the earliest known version of the cat’s image on the web came from a Russian cat food company called Happy Cat.

The Happy Cat template became so popular over the years that it was used in many other memes. However, the ‘Has Cheezburger’ meme has got a life of its own.

A look at the meme’s origin

Know Your Meme notes that the Happy Cat meme began after the image of a cat with the text was put up on the Something Awful forums in 2003 by the user, FancyCat.

The identity of the feline remains conflicted, with some saying it’s a British shorthair named Frank who was born in 1994 and passed away in 2007, while others claim it’s Misha and was born in 2003.

Internet’s favorite ‘Has Cheezburger’ renditions

TikTok, Reddit and Twitter have all been flooded with ‘Has Cheezburger’ memes. At this point, creating them is every cat owner’s dream.

TikTok user @nattyoww posted how her cat took a tiny bite out of her yummy cheezburger.

User ‘@malloryisahobbit’ showed us how her cat stole her burger.

A certain cat on Twitter got sick of asking for cheeseburgers and hence decided to make one himself.
