Lack Of Internet Connectivity Forces Malkangiri Students To Appear Online Exam Inside Forest

Malkangiri: Children walking miles to appear for an exam online in the absence of internet connectivity in Malkangiri district has exposed the soft underbelly of online education.

The case in point is students of Government High School in Materu under Podia block have to walk to a place that is 4 km away to get mobile phone signal to appear Utkarsh examination amid bushes under a tree on the roadside.

The students accompanied by their teacher are accessing internet connectivity by getting mobile phone signal from neighbouring Chhattisgarh through roaming.

“We are from Materu panchayat under Podia block of Malkangiri district. Today the students are appearing for the online Utkarsh exam. We have come to this forest after walking for 3 km to access the mobile phone network of neighbouring Chhattisgarh through roaming,” said Rudramani Durga, a teacher of Materu Government High School.

There is the threat of children being attacked by wild animals in this forested area, Durga added.
