Celebrity fashion designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee has again found himself at the receiving end of criticism for a new ad for his Autumn/Winter 2021 Collection of fine jewellery. The ad features three models decked in the new jewellery collection. However, netizens had an adverse opinion about the expressions of the models in the ad.
The ad showcases different designs of the new collection by the fine jewellery segment of the luxury brand. “Sabyasachi Fine Jewellery @sabyasachijewelry featuring uncut and brilliant cut diamonds, opals, pearls, emeralds, aquamarine and coloured stones in 22k gold,” explains the caption shared in the official Instagram profile of Sabyasachi.
Here’s the ad that has irked the internet:
After the release of the ad, netizens promptly took to Twitter to express how the models featured in the ad were looking too “serious”. While some criticised their facial expressions, others had opinions about the backdrop of the ad.
Here’s what netizens had to say:

All these models need to go on detox diet. Look at those constipated looks n lusterless skin. They all look so unwell.

Some netizens, on the other hand, liked the creative concept of the ad and gave their opinions.
I think this #jewelery ad is very nice which reflects the simplicity and natural beauty, but if these models had a bindi on their forehead and a little smile on their lips then it would definitely enriched the beauty of jewelleries….. #Sabyasachi pic.twitter.com/fpjOVftq2f

This controversy is, unfortunately, not the first for the celebrity designer. In October, the ad campaign by Sabyasachi showcasing his collection of mangalsutras, did not go down well with a section of the internet that deemed the advertisement as ‘obscene’.
The promotional advertisement featured heterosexual and same-sex couples posing for pictures wearing The Royal Bengal Mangalsutra, which is a part of the designer’s intimate jewellery collection.
