SAN JOSE — A two-alarm vegetation fire reported Tuesday afternoon burned about five acres in an area populated by prominent tech firms, but San Jose firefighters got control of the blaze before it seriously threatened any people or buildings.
The fire was reported at 1:23 p.m. at Orchard Parkway and Component Drive, near the campus for eBay and a block northwest of PayPal’s headquarters. The fire is also near a parcel of land purchased by Apple in 2015.
San Jose Fire Capt. Brad Cloutier said firefighters immediately focused on extinguishing the fire closest to the adjacent industrial parks. Parts of Orchard Parkway and Component Drive were closed to allow emergency vehicle access, and Cloutier said he expected the scene to be clear by 4 p.m.
There were no reports of injuries associated with the fire, and a spokeswoman for nearby Mineta San Jose International Airport said the smoke had no impacts on flights. A cause for the fire is under investigation.
We’re on scene of an approximately 3 acre vegetation fire at Component Drive and Orchard Pkwy in north San Jose. Multiple streets are closed in the area, with smoke drifting south toward the airport. Avoid the area if possible. pic.twitter.com/dt4FXF3EO6
