Just as Samsung was about to turn a corner with the Galaxy Note 9’s flaws, a number of BlueTooth issues have resurfaced on the latest phablet.
Although any new device is going to have teething troubles, these issues can present an opportunity for a manufacturer to show that it is responsive to the reports coming in from users, to offer community ongoing feedback while the issue is addressed, and to prove that updates and patches can be easily rolled out.
So what should be made of longstanding BlueTooth issues present in the Galaxy Note 8 that are impacting Note 9 users? Piunika Web reports:
Back then, the complainants were suggested to upgrade their to-be paired devices to match up to Note 8’s newest Bluetooth 5.0 technology. Cut to now, we are in the last quarter of this year, and the Note line up has leveled up to Galaxy Note 9. But Bluetooth issues just refuse to budge.
…While majority of them delineate pairing their phone to their car’s head unit over Bluetooth a hit and miss, some struggle while pairing with smartwatches, headphones and other Bluetooth devices as well.
It’s not just enough to have the highest specced device in the smartphone market. It’s about after sales support, reputational standing, and consumers trusting in a brand. For all of Apple’s issues around batteries, charging, and aggressive security policies, consumers still believe that Apple is a brand that can be trusted to take care of them – how much of that goodwill is based on long-term reputation rather than short-term demonstrations is open to debate.
And this is Samsung’s weak point. It’s the tallest poppy in the Android ecosystem, which means that for many the actions that Samsung takes reflect on the whole ecosystem. If the Galaxy handsets are updated quickly, software is patched, and flaws are fixed, then everyone is happy. But if issues are left to languish for over a year, if the only feedback is for forum moderators to say ‘engineers are still working on it’, then the whole platform is dragged down.
Flagships fly the flag for a reason, but there are times when the only interpretation is that a ship is drifting towards dangerous shoals.
