SHAKER HEIGHTS, Ohio — East Tech won its fifth Senate League championship in six years, led by graduated guards D.J. Harrell and Johnny Bigsby.
A third guard, who emerged last year as a captain, returns in Ronald Jenkins. The Scarabs also added a Lutheran East transfer in Chris Peoples to join returning rotational players Marcos Vazquez, Jordan Huff and Terrion Ellis. Their roles should grow this season, as Tech looks to replace the scoring and ball handling of Harrell and Bigsby.
A change in the Senate for the defending champs brings a new divisional alignment in the city. The new structure will eliminate the four-team tournament near season’s end and place teams in two divisions based on their competitive history. That means two games vs. rival Glenville and two more vs. Rhodes. The top two teams in the division will then meet for the city championship in the Red Division, which East Tech is a member. The Blue Division will play for promotion into the Red Division.
