Re: “Facebook’s plan to address housing, transportation” (Page A10, Oct. 24)
I’m not at all impressed with Facebook or Google giving $1 billion for housing.
Facebook’s $1 billion might house 20,000 people — less than their work force. The massive buildup of tech companies in this area is largely responsible for our lack of housing, gridlocked streets, pollution and diminished quality of living.
They have hijacked local zoning and perverted a process that should ensure adequate housing, schools, parks and infrastructure for a community’s jobs. Facebook and Google both make more than a billion dollars every two weeks.
They should be required to build a home for every job they fill and then taxed at an adequate rate to provide for the needed infrastructure increases.
They caused the problem; they need to pay to fix it. Our elected representatives are serving the wrong constituency when they allow more jobs than an area can support. We deserve zoning for communities, not tech companies.
