THE FLATS – Georgia Tech’s men’s tennis program will be back on the court this weekend as the Yellow Jackets (7-5, 1-2 ACC) are set to do battle against a pair of ACC Atlantic Division opponents in Notre Dame (6-7, 2-1 ACC) and Louisville (9-6, 2-1 ACC).
Tech enters the weekend as the No. 44 ranked men’s team in the country according to the latest Oracle/ITA Division I Men’s Rankings. The Yellow Jackets are 6-2 at home this season, but have yet to secure a win on the road. True freshman Andres Martin moved up five places in the latest singles rankings landing in the No. 60 spot. Two pairs of Jackets found themselves in the latest doubles rankings with the pairings of freshman Marcus McDaniel/sophomore Pablo Schelcher and Martin/fellow freshman Keshav Chopra ranked No. 60 and No. 71, respectively.
The Fighting Irish will take on the Jackets on The Flats on Friday, March 13 with a start time set for 5 p.m. (EST) at the Ken Byers Tennis Complex. The Irish are coming off of back-to-back road losses against Virginia and Northwestern, sporting an over .500 conference record having captured wins versus Boston College and Louisville in February.
Notre Dame is led by the No. 8 ranked singles player in the country in junior Richard Ciamarra; fellow Irish junior Tristan McCormick is also ranked in singles in the No. 106 spot. McCormick was listed in the top-45 in doubles twice last week as he is ranked No. 39 in NCAA Division I when paired with sophomore Axel Nefve, while also being ranked in the No. 44 slot when playing alongside Ciamarra.
The Jackets’ will hit the road after taking on the Irish to play against Louisville on Sunday at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center with a start time slated for noon (EST). The Cardinals are also coming off of two straight losses having dropped matches against Iowa and Cornell last weekend. Louisville is 8-2 at home this year with its only losses coming from Oregon and Northwestern as well. Only one Cardinal found his way into the latest singles rankings with junior Tin Chen falling from No. 76 to No. 91. Louisville will be on the road Friday against Virginia Tech before heading back to The Bluegrass State to face the Yellow Jackets on Sunday.
