The annual citywide tour is open to the public and connects businesses with job seekers
Editor’s note: An earlier version of this story should have said the 2019 Eugene Tech Tour is on Thursday.
Eugene technology companies will open their doors Thursday to show off their work and recruit new talent as part of an annual, citywide tour.
The Technology Association of Oregon’s 2019 Eugene Tech Tour includes access to nearly 50 of the city’s local businesses, from electric car company Arcimoto to video game studio Pipeworks. Tickets for the open-to-the-public event are between $5 and $10.
Greater Eugene is home to 471 tech companies, according to TAO. Those companies currently have 234 open jobs, TAO said, and the tech tour is designed in part to help connect students and job seekers with the local businesses that could give them their next gigs.
“The Tech Tour is a win-win event, connecting industry to the rich talent pool here in Eugene. University of Oregon students bring energy and specialized skills that will, undoubtedly, enrich work places across the state,” Senior Director of Industry Partnerships at UO Tina Gulberg said in a news release.
The tour will highlight Arcimoto, which just began retail production of its “fun utility vehicle,” and Pipeworks, which will join with neighbors Inseego and Nulia in an Oktoberfest-themed open house.
Tourists also will have access to two recently renovated downtown buildings and the companies in them: 1 East Broadway, where management firm Tyndale Advisors is located, and 1235 Willamette St., where Wayfair and Bitcork will have a pop-up presence.
Registration for the Tech Tour opens at 4 p.m. in Kesey Square where local band Upstate Trip will play, according to TAO.
Opening ceremonies kick off at 5 p.m. with an address from Eugene Mayor Lucy Vinis and Lane Workforce Partnership Director Kristina Payne. The tour is open from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. There is an after party at Level Up Arcade starting at 8 p.m. Tickets to the 2019 Eugene Tech Tour are available at www.eventbrite.com.
