Georgia has not made a decision regarding its spring football game due to concerns regarding the coronavirus, according to athletic director Greg McGarity. Georgia Tech did not immediately respond to a request on the status of its spring game.
Many sports events have been canceled or will be played in empty arenas and stadiums as the COVID-19 virus outbreak has spread both nationally and internationally. On Wednesday, the NCAA announced that the men’s and women’s basketball tournaments would be played with only essential personnel and limited family.
The NBA suspended the remainder of its season after a player tested positive for the virus.
The University of Michigan on Wednesday canceled its spring football game.
Georgia’s spring game is scheduled for April 18 in Athens.
Georgia is scheduled to host the NCAA Swim & Dive Championships on March 18. That event, as the NCAA Tournaments, will be played in front of only participants, essential staff and limited family.
Georgia Tech’s spring game is schedule for April 10 in Atlanta.
