Virginia Tech at Notre Dame: Three things you need to know
1. Virginia Tech will need to run, run, and run. Everyone saw what Michigan did to Notre Dame (gauged them for 303 rushing yards). Michigan only had to pass 14 times. Virginia Tech ranks 53rd in rushing yards (175 per game), but has topped 200 yards twice in recent weeks.
2. How is Notre Dame’s psyche? Everything that could have gone wrong last week did. The Irish lost 45-14 in Ann Arbor despite having a full bye week to prepare. QB Ian Book was seeing ghosts as he completed just 8-of-25 passing for well under 100 yards. Notre Dame ran 31 times for less than 50 yards.
3. Controlling the lines. The team that controls both sides of the ball in the trenches the best will win. It is something Notre Dame expects to do a better job of this week against a slightly less polished Virginia Tech squad.

Virginia Tech at Notre Dame: Odds, betting lines and picks
Notre Dame 31 Virginia Tech 24
Notre Dame carries a large -834 moneyline into this game. It is widely believed that Virginia Tech’s big negative turnover margin is the main reason.
Virginia Tech (+545) has the running game and receivers to scare Notre Dame. However, that turnover problem and defense is questionable enough to make this a win for the Fighting Irish.

Against the Spread (ATS)
Notre Dame is 4-3 overall ATS and 3-1 at home (covering by a margin of 5.2 points per game) while Virginia Tech is only 1-1 ATS on the road this year, but 1-4 at home.
The problem is the big point spread (-17.5). Can Notre Dame cover that after what occurred last week? Do the Irish come out flat against the Hokies? The feeling is they come out just shaky enough that the Fighting Irish do not cover the spread. Take VIRGINIA TECH+17.5 (-110).
The O/U is 57.5 (-110). That could come close but more than likely, the under should connect. Both teams can easily average 30+ points, but the likelihood is low that both do Saturday.
Notre Dame is 3-4 against the over/under while Virginia Tech is 4-3. The Fighting Irish are 2-2 at home with a cover of 2.5 points per game over the projection. That is not a lot. Combine that with how anemic Notre Dame looked last week, the UNDER is play.
