NORFOLK, Va. – It’s been seven months since Old Dominion University last played a football game. And, because of the COVID-19 pandemic – it could be many more months until the Monarchs take the field again. So, to satisfy fans’ football fix, ODU is replaying the biggest win in program history.
Wednesday July 29th, ODUSports.com will re-broadcast the Monarchs historic 2018 win vs. Virginia Tech.
The re-broadcast of “The Miracle on Monarch Way” will air on ODUSports.com and will feature interviews from the players that played the game, including Blake LaRussa, Jeremy Cox, Travis Fulgham, Nick Clarke, Sean Carter and Oshane Ximines, as well as CBS Sports Network play by play announcer, Carter Blackburn.

“That was on game that, before the season, everyone had marked on their list,” New York Giants linebacker and former ODU standout Oshane Ximines said in a Twitter video posted to ODU Football’s account.
On Sept. 22, 2018, Old Dominion, 0-and-3 on the season, stunned the football world with a 49-35 win over Virginia Tech. According to ESPN’s Football Power Index, ODU had a 1.8 percent chance of beating the Hokies prior to kickoff. This marked the biggest upset by an FBS team in the 14 years of ESPN’s Football Power Index predictions.

Blake LaRussa passed for 495 yards and four touchdowns, throwing for the second most yards allowed by a Tech defense. ODU gained 632 yards, the most ever allowed by a Bud Foster defense and when Jeremy Cox ripped off a 40-yard touchdown run to clinch the historic victory.
