Pebble has announced pre-orders for Pebble Time Steel, the second generation smartwatch from Pebble starting at $249. Pebble aims to start shipping the new smartwatch within six-eight weeks.
Pebble Steel is already shipping to Kickstarter campaign backers. The company has now announced availability for rest of the consumers. Pebble has still not specified the dates for retail availability of Pebble Time Steel. The starting model with genuine Italian leather strap will come at a price of $249.
Pebble Time Steel is completely made up of steel compared to previous watches introduced by Pebble. Pebble Time Steel offers the option to replay the events and notifications that have been already seen.
Pebble Time Steel comes in three finishes—Gunmetal Black, Brushed Silver and Gold. In case you missed out during the Kickstarter, now is the time to order the watch to get it by mid / late September.
Pebble Time Steel with 22mm genuine leather strap will cost $249. Pebble Time Steel with a steel strap has been priced at $299. The watch with golden strap costs $349.
Pebble Time Steel support e-paper display and 10 days of battery life. Pebble managed to raise $20 million in a kickstarter campaign in March last year. In a market crowded with smartwatches from Motorola, Apple, LG and Samsung, Pebble smartwatches are still finding many takers as they offer longer battery life and have simple interface.
Apple has not yet announced the sales numbers for Apple Watch. Market research reports suggest that during the last quarter, Apple grabbed 75 percent market share in the smartwatch segment.
Pebble Time Steel supports both Android and iOS operating systems. Users can install the apps available for both the operating systems.
Pebble Time Steel has much better display compared to the earlier model. Time Steel also has improved readability indoors. Pebble has kept the same software as was available with Pebble Time.
