A Seguin man who was arrested in connection with the killing of a Texas Tech University police officer is being sued by the late officer’s wife.
Carmen East, the widow of Officer Floyd East Jr., filed the lawsuit against 21-year-old Hollis Daniels, and is seeking more than $1 million in damages, according to media reports.
Daniels was a 19-year-old freshman when police said he shot and killed East during a drug arrest on Oct. 9, 2017.
In her lawsuit, East accused Daniels of acting with gross negligence and is seeking damages due to loss of society, loss of advice and counsel, loss of companionship, loss of services, funeral expenses, mental anguish, exemplary damages, counseling bills and survival damages.
Daniels is being held in the Lubbock County Detention Center with bail set at $5 million. He was indicted by a Lubbock County grand jury with capital murder on Nov. 1, 2017.
