RICHMOND, Ind. – Ivy Tech Community College has named Stacy Atkinson chancellor for the Richmond campus and Connersville site, as of Sept. 30.
Atkinson replaces Chad Bolser, who assumed the role of vice president of operations for the southern campuses for Ivy Tech in July. Since that time, Atkinson has been serving as acting chancellor, as well as the vice chancellor for academic affairs for the Richmond campus.
“It is my absolute honor to serve the Richmond campus as chancellor,” Atkinson said in a release. “I hope that together we can lift up our campus up to greater heights for the good of our community, system and state. It is our enduring commitment to serve the students of our entire campus community and ensure our faculty and staff are equipped for the task.”
Atkinson started her time at Ivy Tech in January 2015. She has served in various roles at the college including early childhood adjunct instructor for the Muncie campus (prior to joining Ivy Tech full-time), senior instructional designer with the Center for Instructional Technology, and the executive director of strategic initiatives.
In addition to her full-time role, Atkinson is a certified SIMPLEX Creative Problem Solving trainer, facilitator, and coach. As part of her work when serving as the executive director of strategic initiatives, Atkinson was heavily involved in the development of Ivy Tech’s strategic plan in 2017, according to the release.
“We are thrilled Stacy is continuing her leadership role with the Richmond campus and with Ivy Tech,” Sue Ellspermann, president, Ivy Tech Community College, stated in the release. “Stacy has a rich background in higher education and with Ivy Tech. Her knowledge and skills, combined with her passion for learning and our students, will have tremendous benefits for the campus and community as we continue to strive for 50,000 Hoosiers earning credentials by 2023.”
Before Ivy Tech, Atkinson was a second grade teacher and eventually moved into higher education, and served as program chair for the early care and education program at the Technical College of the Lowcountry in S.C. after being honorably discharged from the United States Marine Corps. Atkinson serves on the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) Commission on Accreditation of Early Childhood Higher Education programs.
Atkinson earned a bachelor of science degree in professional aeronautics from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, a master’s of arts degree in elementary and early childhood education from the University of South Carolina, master’s of arts in curriculum and instruction from Lesley University, and a PhD in adult learning and development from Lesley University.
