MARQUETTE, Mich. (WLUC) – Northern Michigan University and Michigan Tech students came together for a tour of the construction industry Thursday afternoon. It was the annual Student Construction Awareness Day hosted by the Associated General Contractors (AGC) of Michigan.
Each year the AGC takes students from the two schools to tour live construction sites in the area. Thursday they toured the Carpenters and Millwrights Training Center in Negaunee Township, the KBIC casino in Chocolay Township and the Fox Subaru dealership in Marquette Township.
“It’s really to expose the students to what’s going on in the industry. They get to talk to the contractors, find out what their career path was, what jobs they do in the company, what their companies do and give them a better sense of what the industry is all about that they are studying for,” said President of the AGC Michigan, Damian Hill.
After the tour, the students joined some of their instructors and contractors for dinner. The AGC does this tour twice each year, once in the U.P. and once downstate.
